PASTA MISTA CHALLENGE 🔥

A family-run Italian spot that’s been doing things properly for 55 years — known for quality, tradition, and seriously good food. Although this challenge is going to prove to be different.

INGREDIENTS:
🍝 Tagliatelle Avocado (mushroom, cheese, avocado, napoli sauce & cream)
🌿 Spaghetti Pesto (pesto, pine nuts, parsley & cream)
🍅 Spaghetti Napoletana (napoli sauce)

PRIZES:
🏆 Meal Free if completed under 20 minutes

RESULTS:
🥇 Finished in 8:42 — becoming the second person to ever complete this challenge. The current record holder and the one who originally opened the challenge is JWebby Can Eat — an absolute machine, so you know this isn’t your average challenge.
There’s no cooling this down with the way it’s piled — it just holds the heat. You can literally see the steam pouring off it. I let it cool at the start, didn’t matter. Still brutal. Burnt my mouth that bad I couldn’t taste anything for days, full blisters, but kept pushing through it.
So it wasn’t just 3kg of pasta, it was 3kg of pasta and a heat challenge at the same time. Water stayed within arm’s reach the whole way just to get through it. Not the most enjoyable challenge, but I got the job done.
What was enjoyable, though, was stepping up to one that’s been shutting people down and actually finishing it.
If you don’t want to take on the challenge, it’s also available as a share-style menu item — same dishes, just enjoyed the way it’s meant to be, without the pressure of the clock and heat.

Back in Camberwell at Sofia's . Last time I took on their pasta challenge, so this visit was all about giving the menu the full J Webby treatment.
Family run, old school recipes, and a menu that goes forever. Dangerous combo.
Started strong with the cheesy garlic bread. Rolled straight into a chicken parmigiana with thick cut fries, proper Melbourne parma energy (or Parmi, depending where you are watching this!)
Then it was pizza time with the Sofia Special, absolutely stacked with everything.
Needed to balance it out with protein, so a massive T-bone hit the table. Ordered medium, cooked medium, shoutout to the chef juggling cooking this massive platter all at once and still nailing it.
Finished the savoury run with the fritto misto and officially the platter was cleared
Thought we were done… but the owner wasn’t having that. Out came out with a Webby Sized bowl of Gelati.
Melbourne, this place does not miss 🤝🍕🍰

Melbourne, you’ve officially got a brand new pasta challenge 🍝🔥
Today I’m at Sofia's a family run Italian local fav that’s been doing things properly for decades. Their signature dish, the Pasta Mista, is now one of Melbourne’s newest and tastiest food challenges.
The task, 3kg of pasta in 20 minutes, and you can choose up to three different pastas. I went with carbonara, marinara and pesto.
I kicked things off with the marinara, spaghetti loaded with prawns and scallops in a rich Napoli sauce. Pro tip, let your pasta cool before you start… which I absolutely did not do.
Next was the pesto, creamy, herby, packed with pine nuts and parsley. Lucky spoon was deployed early to keep things moving.
Carbonara is one of my all time favourites, bacon, cream, egg and cheese, so I couldn’t hold back.
Five minutes in and the plate was still steaming, sweat levels rising fast.
This has to be not only one of the biggest pasta challenges in Melbourne, but easily one of the most delicious.
Family recipes, big portions and zero shortcuts.
Beat it in under 20 minutes and the meal is free.
