It's been a big week for Señor Simón Basque Cheesecakes, we've added new points of sale and a few venues sold out before the weekend started. The cakes were looking picture perfect this morning and after a year chef George Milinkos is still tinkering and perfecting. Also part of our first Spanish Gourmet Dinner box for Spencer and Co of Carlton. Have a great weekend.

• Burnt Basque Cheesecake • Have you tried one yet? We saw these mini cheesecakes on our explore page and had to try then!! Luckily, they are within our 5km, positioned perfectly at the South Melb market. The cheesecakes were delicious, a lot lighter than a New York cheesecake, with an airy, soufflé like cream cheese based batter with a delicious caramel top. No biscuit base on these babies. We highly recommend visiting, it’s a great Spain’s food store. Plus have an awesome competition which you should check out.

The story of
Señor simon
Best Burnt Basque Cheesecake

“I was standing in a narrow street in San Sebastian, Spain, some ten years ago about to ask the first person I could find to point me to a couple of good pintxos bars, the first person to cross my path was Matt Preston! He was doing a book on tapas and said “Come with me, I’m going to a bar famous for cheesecake!!” I thought he was joking but no, he took me to the historic La Viña and the love affair with the burnt cheesecake began. The next ten years were spent performing and filming around the world till a pandemic came along. With the entertainment industry at a stand still, chef George Miliankos and I set up a pop-up shop in Northcote on Sundays during the 5km lockdown. We sold out in two hours. The cakes are now selling in choice delis and cafes around Melbourne. The look on people’s faces when they first taste the mix of cheesecake and creme caramel is what keeps us going”.
