Today the SBS Cantonese podcast and article officially went live ❤️

What started as a small idea as a mum wanting a welcoming space for families has grown into something I’m so proud and grateful for.

Thank you to SBS Cantonese for allowing me to share our story, and thank you to everyone who has supported Origami Play Cafe from the beginning 🥰

If anyone is interested in reading, the link is in our bio ❤️
(It’s in Chinese — translator might help lol 😊)

Honoured to be invited to SBS Cantonese today for an interview sharing the story and inspiration behind our café

It was a pleasure to talk about how the idea began, and my passion for preserving language and culture through community, connection, and family experiences.

Thank you to the SBS Cantonese team for having me 😊

POV: when your kid takes party setup very seriously 😆

Valerie helped prepare the party table and even learned a hospitality trick — pulling the forks from the bottom so the fork tips stay clean.

🎉 Mascot Name Reveal! 🐰🦊

Thank you to everyone who joined our mascot name guessing game — both in-store and on social media! We loved reading all the creative and thoughtful guesses.

And now… meet our mascots!

🐰 Ori – the calm and gentle bunny
🦊 Gami – the curious and cheeky fox

Together their names form Ori + Gami = Origami, just like our cafe name.

The names were inspired by origami, the beautiful Japanese art of paper folding — representing creativity, imagination and playful discovery, which is exactly what we hope families experience at Origami Play Cafe.

✨ Winner Announcement ✨

🥇 1st Prize – $500 Party Credits
Congratulations to Victoria () who was the first to correctly guess both of our mascots’ names! 🎉 Amazing!

🥈 Special Prize – $250 Party Credits
Our second prize was originally for guessing one mascot name correctly. Since no one guessed exactly one name, we’ve decided to award it to the most creative guess.

A special shoutout to Melinda (.conn) for her thoughtful guess “Asobu and Tanoshi”, meaning play and fun in Japanese — such a beautiful connection to our cafe! 💛

Thank you again to everyone who participated. We loved seeing all your guesses and support.

Keep an eye out… Ori & Gami will be popping up around the cafe very soon! ✨
