Our coffee travels are nearly at an end!
Coffee culture in the UAE is a fascinating mix of tradition and modern coffee culture. Gahwa, traditional Arabic coffee, is an important part of Emirati hospitality — often flavoured with cardamom and served alongside dates. And alongside that tradition, the UAE has developed a huge modern café scene. ☕✨
From the dallah to the espresso machine, there’s plenty of coffee history and culture to discover here.
But now… we’re starting to head home. ✈️🇦🇺
We’re heading back to Australia next week!

🇩🇪☕ GERMANY & COFFEE
We’re spending a little time in Germany, so naturally…here a little update ;)
And Germans definitely know their way around a good cup.
Coffee has been part of German everyday life for centuries — from the classic Kaffee und Kuchen ritual to busy cafés and the growing modern coffee scene. And mate, Sabrina’s mum knows how to make a good cake ;)
There’s something we really love about it: coffee isn’t just a drink. It’s a reason to pause, connect and spend time with people.
And that feels very familiar to us at Mad About Beans.
Different countries.
Different coffee cultures.
Same love for a great cup. ❤️☕
Back home in Geelong, we’ll keep doing coffee our way: small-batch roasted, freshly roasted to order, ethically sourced and with a fair margin for everyone in the supply chain.

A little coffee fact-finding mission while we’re on our travels.
We’re having a little break in Thailand at the moment, and naturally, coffee has managed to make its way into the holiday conversation more than once.
Thailand produces around 16,200 tonnes of coffee in 2026, including about 10,750 tonnes of Arabica.
To put that into perspective, Australia produces only around 600 tonnes a year. So Thailand produces roughly 27 times more coffee than back home, and its Arabica production alone is around 18 times Australia’s total coffee production.
Most of Thailand’s Arabica comes from the cooler northern highlands, particularly around Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
And we’ve loved seeing just how much coffee is part of everyday life here. Tiny cafés, busy coffee shops, iced coffees in the heat… there’s always another cup somewhere.
It’s also a nice reminder of why we love being part of the coffee world.
Coffee connects places, people and cultures in ways you don’t always think about when you’re standing at home waiting for your morning espresso.
Our little family business will be taking a few more days to enjoy the break before we head off again.
Tomorrow we’re leaving Thailand and heading to Germany to see family.
Then it’s back to Geelong, back to the roaster and back to doing what we love.
Roasting resumes Monday 28/09.

Friday = roast day.
There’s something pretty satisfying about seeing all those freshly roasted bags lined up and ready to go — especially when you know how much handwork has gone into getting them there.

Well… Saturday morning wasn’t quite what we had planned. 😂☕️
We had so many orders coming in that we simply couldn’t get everything roasted on Friday — so Saturday became an extra roasting day.
And honestly? We’re absolutely not complaining. ❤️
As a small family coffee roaster in Grovedale, Geelong, every order means a lot to us. Having enough coffee to roast that we had to come back into the roastery on Saturday is a pretty fantastic problem to have.
