It’s taken me a couple weeks now to let everyone know that ive made the decision to close the chapter that is/was Dirty Doug’s Essentials.
After many many MANY months of asking myself ‘should I stay or should I go’ it is time to let this go.
Since COVID and now all these ongoing and rapidly escalating costs Dirty Doug’s is not fun anymore, it’s expensive and we are struggling to survive in what has become a predictable world, ever advancing social media dominance, and of course the illustrious ‘algorithms’.
My inbox is full of spam mail constantly trying to sell me something, my depression is real each time I’m comparing my worth against contemporaries who have a team (even be that two extra people) helping, my health declines as I stress about the roof over my head and what quality of life I’m going to give my child. Time to get back me! I miss my friends and would like to have time for adult conversations that aren’t just with suppliers, customers, stockists and event organisers.
I’ll be honest the BBQ scene has exploded and so too (especially coming out of covid). The authenticity and what we stood for and delivered has now become like as****es, (everyone has one). And well, you the consumer/customer can only spread your spare change so far on luxury items.
ON THE POSITIVE
Firstly I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart every single customer and stockist and supplier and event manager that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the last almost seven years.
I especially want to shout out to the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley community for being my most staunch supporters. Also the Goulburn Region too.
My online customers Thank You 🙏 I met most of you at some festival or random location you may have travelled through and you continued to support.
I walk away with my head held high as achievements were made
Sydney Fine food show awards received (7 in fact)
1x Gold 5x Silver 1x Bronze
Australian Barbecue Alliance awards
4th Best Australian Products

Ok so the website will shortly be shut down but I will keep open FB and Insta accounts as stockists will still have stock available until they sell out. So please support them and grab your last jars and bottles or tubs whilst you can.
As time goes on and if time permits I’ll let you in on recipes but again like the gazillion reels I see everyday everyone is posting ideas on how to cook.
I’m just not that person I can’t be a sheep and follow the herds. I see behind the monotony of what is being decided and force feed to us by the disgustingly rich corporations (or individuals) of the world.
So again THANK YOU 🙏 for the last 6 1/2 years
Good day and good night 🙏
