One of the interesting challenges we encountered for Rubix By Night was how do we transform the ambiance of your favourite day cafe to a moody restaurant? We have invested heavily in lighting, new cabinetry, curated playlists, candles and even sourced black serviettes! However the cherry on top has got to be our iconic neon sign. As we crawl out of the debris left from Mother’s Day… Team Rubix wants to wish a happy belated Mother’s Day to all the fab mothers out there. Thank you to all the customers who chose Rubix to celebrate this special day and help us break our record again for the busiest day in our history (150 people booked)!
Thank you to the team for your tireless work… and in our signature impractical dress up no less. If it wasn’t for all the compounding improvements we’ve made as a team, our record breaking day wouldn’t have been nearly as smooth and, dare I say, fun. ❤️

We’ve got a big announcement. We’ve been trying to keep this new addition to Rubix a little secret. But the cravings are kicking in and getting ever more exotic. We have anxiously waited for one trimester to pass and now we’re finally ready to go “Facebook official”…

We would like to proudly welcome to the world: Rubix by Night! 🍸 🍹🍷

That’s right. Your favourite cafe now does dinners on Friday and Saturday nights (5pm - 9pm).

Completely new menu. Modern South East Asian cuisine.

We’re fully licensed with a curated wine list to pair specifically with our menu. (No BYO - sorry!)

We’ve been blown away by the reception so far and we’d love for you to meet our new baby!

P.S. Please note these ‘baby photos’ were taken when she was a wee infant. Since then, we’ve implemented a ton of customer feedback, and she’s grown up fast! Don’t be surprised if the dishes look a little more ‘mature’ (and more delicious) when you visit next.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of yet another essential appliance... the milk fridge. And as a cruel twist of fate, our head chef announced the shock passing of the commercial oven after we recorded this skit.

In just over a year Rubix has lost:
- 2x Air Con units ($4.5k each)
- 1x Cake Fridge ($5k)
- 1x Milk Fridge ($5k)
- 1x commercial oven (now urgently in the process of being replaced: another approx >$17k)
- This does not account for the countless $$$ we imprudently spent on technicians fixing dying equipment that should have just been replaced... if only we had more wisdom.

Alas, it is all part of the circle of life - we just didn’t expect the circle to be so damn small! Luckily one thing that hasn’t broken is our resilience.

We hope this gives you a bit of insight into what happens behind the scenes of our humble cafe. Rest assured, there are backups in place so we don’t anticipate any blips in service... but if one were to arise we thank you for your understanding!
