Hey everyone,
Just a heads up — There is a planned power outage tonight, so we have to adjust our timing a little:
🍽️ Last dine-in order: 7:45pm
🥡 Last takeaway order: 8:15pm
🚪 We'll be closed by 8:30pm
Come early and grab your favourites before the lights shut off on us. Sorry for the short notice, apparently Kantan is the only property to be affected by this outage within the whole building. Thank you for understanding. See you back to normal tomorrow 🙏

We’re in The Age!
Kantan has been featured in Good Food’s guide to laksa in Melbourne — and our plant-based curry laksa was named their pick for vegan laksa.
Honestly? This one feels pretty special.
I developed this recipe during lockdown, for the Fitzroy community — many months of tinkering with veg stock, spice blends and chasing that perfect bowl. To see it recognised by Good Food now? Pretty chuffed! 🩷
Thank you to Good Food and Annie Hariharan for the interview.
One laksa, your way — choose your toppings: chicken, seafood, vegetables or fully vegan. Come find your bowl with us.

What people say
Kantan Catering in Johnston Street, Melbourne is a must-try for anyone who loves Malaysian food. The team at Kantan has a passion for Malaysian cuisine and culture, which is evident in the delicious and authentic dishes they serve. They use recipes straight from the 'kampungs' (villages) of Malaysia, making their food hard to find anywhere else in Melbourne.
The name 'Kantan' comes from the bright pink ginger torch flower commonly used in traditional Malay and Peranakan dishes like 'Assam Laksa' and 'Nasi Kerabu'. This flower adds a unique fragrance and peppery zing to any dish, making it truly Malaysian.
What sets Kantan Catering apart is their aim to recreate the social atmosphere of a Malaysian village when friends get together for a night of fine dining. Their relaxed and homey environment makes you feel like you're part of the family.
Whether you're looking for private or corporate catering services, Kantan Catering has got you covered. Their speciality is Malaysian food, so if you're craving some authentic flavours, be sure to check them out. Follow them on Instagram to see what goes on in their kitchen or email [email protected] for catering inquiries. Cheers to the KANTAN team for bringing a taste of Malaysia to Melbourne!
