It’s Grand Final Day!

Before you settle in for the game, come down to Oscar’s Hangout, grab a coffee, sit down for something warm to eat and pick up a few freshly baked Muffin Man muffins to take home for later.

And because Kylie is kicking off the Grand Final today, we had to get in on the fun.

Yesterday we asked you to choose the flavour for our limited-edition Team Kylie muffin, and the winner was Strawberry Cheesecake.

Today’s muffin flavours include:

Blueberry Cinnamon

Did you know Oscar’s Hangout sits on a pretty special piece of Mordialloc history?

Oscar’s is located in the Epsom Estate, on the site of the old Epsom Racecourse, once one of Melbourne’s most prestigious racetracks.

After the grandstand was destroyed by fire in 1938, Epsom became dedicated to horse training. Trainers lived locally, the sound of horses travelling through the streets was part of everyday life, and horses were even taken to the beach to swim.

The racecourse finally closed in 1998, but pieces of its history are still here.

Oscar’s Hangout is located in the historic ticket booth building from the old racecourse, with remnants of the original ticket booths still around the building.

Today, where people once gathered for the races, our local community gathers for breakfast, lunch and coffee.

And there’s another local story that started right here.

Brad had been baking his own muffins at Oscar’s from day one, but during the COVID lockdowns, the muffins went crazy! People were looking for a little treat to brighten their day, and word quickly spread about the muffins at Oscar’s.

That lockdown craze became The Muffin Man, and Oscar’s is still its home today.

From racehorses and ticket booths to coffee, community and muffins, there’s a lot of Mordialloc history behind our little local.

Yesterday we celebrated 15 years of Oscar’s Hangout, and we couldn’t think of a better way to mark it.

It was our annual Parkdale Secondary College STEPS Program Takeover Night.

Each year, Brad works with a group of high school students interested in a future in hospitality. Over the course of a term, they learn, train, create and build their skills, all leading up to one big night.

They take over Oscar’s.

The students step into the kitchen and onto the floor to deliver a full five-course degustation for their friends, families and teachers, showcasing everything they’ve worked towards.

This year was made even more special because it happened to fall as Oscar’s celebrated 15 years.

So, of course, we finished the night with a 15th birthday cake.

For 15 years, Oscar’s has been about much more than serving food. It’s been about our community, giving people opportunities, teaching the next generation and keeping genuine hospitality skills alive.

What a way to celebrate 15 years.

What a Father’s Day!

A massive thank you to everyone who came out and joined us for breakfast, brunch and lunch today.

Our team served more than 193 meals, poured 151 coffees, and made plenty more in between.

Days like today are what Oscar’s is all about. Good food, busy tables, familiar faces and our local community coming together.

A huge effort from our team, and an even bigger thank you to everyone who chose to spend part of Father’s Day with us.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, granddads and father figures out there. We hope you had a fantastic day.

Father’s Day is this Sunday, and there’s still time to book your table at Oscar’s Hangout.

Bring Dad in for breakfast, settle in for a relaxed brunch, or get the family together for lunch.
