WHO IS SITTING AT YOUR TABLE?

Last night, sitting around the table with Denise Massoud , Mark Lane and Andrew Munroe, three former City of Whitehorse councillors and mayors, I found myself reflecting on that question.

Most people know them for the positions they’ve held. I’ve had the privilege of knowing them simply as amazing human beings, particularly through challenging times, when I was able to see leadership not through titles, but through actions.

And each of them taught me something different.

From Denise : listen and observe. Sometimes the greatest learning happens when we stop talking, pay attention and truly listen.

From Mark: know what is required, then find the right people for the right roles. You don’t have to do everything yourself. Good leadership is recognising the strengths in others and allowing them to shine.

From Andrew: have a vision bigger than yourself — one that reaches beyond you and beyond the boundaries of where you are today.

But perhaps the greatest lesson I have learned from all three is this:

Leadership is not about the position you hold. It is about the influence you use and the impact you create.

Even when you are in a position of power, use that influence for good. Bring people with you. Help each other become better. Because leadership was never meant to be about one person succeeding alone.

Dream big.
Do what is required.
Bring the right people together.
And never forget who you are doing it for.

As Amor Mexico approaches the end of this chapter, I’m reminded again that the greatest thing we created was never just a restaurant.

It was connection.

The conversations. The friendships. The people who walked through our doors and became part of our story.

Titles come and go. Places open and close. Chapters end.

But the impact we have on one another can remain long after.

In the end, it’s always the people.
Bring them with you. Make each other better.

Dedicated to my past and present team

When you joined our Amor team, you may have thought it was just a job. But for me, it became something much more.

So many of you came to Amor after finishing Year 12, ready to start university and step into adulthood. I’ve had the privilege of watching you grow, celebrating your milestones and being there through some of the harder moments, too.

Emily, you moved interstate to start your first year at university, and I can’t believe that was ten years ago.

We’ve shared your first breakup, your first exam and so many changes. I watched you finish university, and now you’re a mum yourself. I’m so proud of the woman you’ve become, and grateful to have met and become part of your family.

To every person who has worked at Amor: thank you for sharing a part of your journey with me. You’ve each left something special here. I hope you know you’ll always be part of the Amor family.

Because family isn’t always connected by blood. Sometimes it’s built through love, time and the journey you share.

10 days to go. ❤️

For the past few weeks, I think I’ve been a little bit in denial.

But as we get closer to closing the doors of Amor Mexico, it’s becoming very real.

And strangely, I’m finding myself slowing down and appreciating these last moments so much more.

Over the years, we’ve shared a lot together.

We’ve celebrated. We’ve laughed until our stomachs hurt. We’ve cried. We’ve shared stories about life, family, love and everything in between.

And sometimes, we’ve simply sat together in silence, just appreciating each other’s presence.

That’s what I’ll remember most.

Not just the restaurant.

The people.

You.

Thank you for dropping by. Thank you for sharing a little part of your life with us. And thank you for allowing Amor to be part of yours.

If you haven’t had the chance to come by one last time, I’d love to see you.

Not to say goodbye.

Just to celebrate what we created together, one more time. ❤️

Let’s clear up the rumours once and for all…

Amor Mexico is not relocating. We’re not opening another business, and this is not a marketing gimmick.

Our final service really will be on 10 October.

We still have three weeks left to celebrate, laugh, share a meal and make a few more memories together. Thank you to everyone who has already visited—and if you haven’t, I’d love to see you one more time ❤️

I can’t quite believe I’m saying this… only three weeks to go until we close the doors of Amor Mexico for the final time on 10 October.

And I’m incredibly grateful to say that our final night, 10 October, is now fully booked.

Thank you to everyone who has made the time to come and see us, whether you’re celebrating a birthday, an anniversary, catching up with old friends, or simply coming back to Amor Mexico one more time.

It means more to me than you probably realise.

These last few weeks aren’t just about saying goodbye to the restaurant. They’re about having the chance to celebrate together, share a meal, tell a few stories and create one last beautiful memory around the table.

I think I got our goodbye completely wrong…

Our final night on October 10 is fully booked, and I’ve had so many people tell me they were disappointed they couldn’t get in.

And then I thought…

Why are we trying to say goodbye in just one night?

So I’ve changed my mind.

We’re not having a farewell night.

We’re having a Farewell Season. ❤️

For the next four weeks, come back for your favourite dish, bring the people you’ve shared Amor with, have the margarita, tell us your stories… and let’s enjoy these last few weeks together.

October 10 might be our final night.

But you don’t have to wait until then to be part of our goodbye.

So much has happened since this photo was taken. So many meals, celebrations, friendships and wonderful people have walked through our doors.

As many of you know, Amor Mexico will be saying farewell, with our final night on 10 October.

A little update too, for everyone who has been asking about our cookbook, we’ve decided not to rush it. It will now be a 2027 project, so the recipes and stories we’ve collected over the years can be given the time they deserve.

People often ask me, “Why Mexico?”

Years ago, Alan and I took our boys to Mexico, and I absolutely fell in love — with the colours, the food, the music, the warmth of the people and the way life seemed to revolve around family, food and celebration.

We even brought little pieces of Mexico home with us. Some of the things you’ve seen on the walls of Amor Mexico actually came back from those trips.

But what we really wanted to bring home was the feeling.

That feeling of coming together, sharing food, laughing, connecting and celebrating life. And over the years, that became such a big part of what Amor Mexico was all about. ❤️

It’s funny how one trip can influence so much of your life.

When we became independent, we held a competition to find our new name. Someone suggested Amor Mexico — “Love Mexico” — and it felt just right.

Amor Mexico was never actually the plan.

It began with Alan’s love of cooking and my love of people. And somewhere along the way, with your support, we found the courage to create something that was truly ours.

Looking back, I realise we didn’t build Amor Mexico for you.

We built it with you. ❤️
