People often ask me, “Why Mexico?”
Years ago, Alan and I took our boys to Mexico, and I absolutely fell in love — with the colours, the food, the music, the warmth of the people and the way life seemed to revolve around family, food and celebration.
We even brought little pieces of Mexico home with us. Some of the things you’ve seen on the walls of Amor Mexico actually came back from those trips.
But what we really wanted to bring home was the feeling.
That feeling of coming together, sharing food, laughing, connecting and celebrating life. And over the years, that became such a big part of what Amor Mexico was all about. ❤️
It’s funny how one trip can influence so much of your life.

When we became independent, we held a competition to find our new name. Someone suggested Amor Mexico — “Love Mexico” — and it felt just right.
Even our name was built together. ❤️

It began with Alan’s love of cooking and my love of people. And somewhere along the way, with your support, we found the courage to create something that was truly ours.
Looking back, I realise we didn’t build Amor Mexico for you.
We built it with you. ❤️

On our trip to Mexico, Alan and I fell in love with this beautiful handcrafted hammock and brought it home to Australia.
For many years, it has hung proudly in Amor Mexico, becoming part of thousands of birthdays, anniversaries, first dates, family celebrations, and moments of joy.
It isn’t just a hammock.
It began as a treasured memory from our travels, but over the years it became something much more. It became part of Amor and part of the memories we created together with all of you.
This piece carries our story, but it carries yours too.
As we prepare to close after 22 unforgettable years, we’d love for this special piece to find a new home where it will continue creating memories for years to come.

I’ve been thinking about how to celebrate 22 incredible years.
At first, I thought we could fit everything into one birthday and farewell celebration.
But after reading your comments, your private messages, and the beautiful memories you’ve been sharing, I realised something…
Twenty-two years could never be told in one night.
It’s made up of thousands of moments. Birthdays. First dates. Proposals. Family dinners. Anniversaries. Laughter. Tears. New beginnings. And the incredible people who made Amor Mexico what it became.
So instead of trying to tell one story…
I’d like to tell 22.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing 22 Stories for 22 Years.
Stories about the journey. The people. The lessons. The challenges. The moments that changed me. And the memories that Alan and I will carry with us forever.
I’m calling this series…
“We Built It Together.”
Because when I look back, I realise we didn’t just build a restaurant.
We built a community.
My hope is that somewhere in these 22 stories, you’ll find one that makes you smile, reminds you of your own journey, or gives you the courage to take the next step towards a dream that’s waiting for you.
