NAIDOC Week at Market Lane!

NAIDOC Week (5–12 July) is an annual celebration of the history, culture and sovereignty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Peoples. This year’s theme is “50 Years of Deadly”, marking the decades of tireless activism taken up by successive generations of Indigenous leaders since the first official NAIDOC Week in 1975.

At Market Lane, we’ve been lucky enough to partner with visionary First Nations-led organisation, , since 2020. This NAIDOC Week, we’ll be donating $1 for every bag of coffee purchased in our shops, on our website, and from our vending machine, to support Children’s Ground crucial work.

If you would like to make a donation directly, you can do so through the Children’s Ground website. You can find more information on our NAIDOC Week campaign, or on our partnership with Children’s Ground, on our website.

Los Rodríguez is available in 250g and 1kg bags!

We’ve been offering coffee from the Rodríguez family in Bolivia since 2011. Most of that coffee was produced in the established coffee-growing region of Caranavi, near the capital, La Paz. This coffee, however, comes from Samaipata, an emerging coffee-growing region near the country’s largest city, Santa Cruz, located at the foot of the Bolivian Andes.

This coffee has notes of dark chocolate and hazelnut, with a sweet plum finish, and can be purchased online or in all our stores.

National Reconciliation Week, 2026: An Interview with Evelyn Schaber

During our most recent visit to Alice Springs, we were honoured to meet and speak with co-chair Evelyn Schaber. Evelyn is an Arrernte woman from Central Australia, and a senior Indigenous leader with extensive experience across governance, education and First Nations organisations. Born and raised in Mpartnwe, she has worked for over five decades in roles supporting First Nations self-determination and community led support systems.

We spoke with Evelyn about her new role with the organisation, the impact of their work, and discussed the essential, structural changes still needed to support First Nations communities across Australia.

This interview appears in the Winter 2026 edition of our Print Journal, which is available in shops and online now 💛

Limited edition Market Lane x Children's Ground Tote Bag 💛

Today is the beginning of National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) – an opportunity for all of us to reflect on what it means to stand in solidarity with First Nations people.

Every year, the week spans two significant dates in Australia’s history: from the 1967 referendum to the High Court’s 1992 Mabo decision. This year’s theme, “All In”, calls for a sustained, collective commitment to reconciliation; it is a reminder that this work cannot solely be the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the violent weight of our colonial inheritance for far too long.

Throughout this week, our partners lead the “Wear it Yellow” campaign – and we will be participating once more with the return of our limited edition yellow tote bag, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the organisation and their First Nations-led education and wellbeing programs.

This special run of totes will only be available this week, in all our shops and online. Together, we can use this week as an opportunity to listen, reflect, and take action towards meaningful reconciliation.

It is with heavy hearts that we share some big news with you. Because of some very exciting renovation plans at Portland House, our tenancy at #8 Collins St will be closing for a long stint – approximately 2 years. Our last day of trade will this Friday, 22 May.

We are so sad to think that our doors won’t be opening each morning, to welcome you in and send you off – perhaps a little more optimistic and energised – for the day ahead.

We’ll be undertaking a renovation in our space during the closure and will be maintaining the Collins St shop's sense of warmth and consideration, to make sure that each of you feel as welcomed and comfortable as ever.

Our customers bring the buzz and warmth of the world to us – you are the reason we have been able to foster such a special community space. We’d like to thank you all, deeply, for your support over the years, and for your love of great coffee. We will be back!

In the meantime, you can find us in one of our shops around the city. Our closest location is at Mitchell House – and we are also so excited to share that we will be opening a new shop in Fitzroy North in June!

Thank you again and see you soon ☕️ 💙

We’re excited to share a very special coffee that was selected during a trip late last year, marking 10 years of working with Fazenda Progresso, a beautiful family-run farm in Bahia, Brazil.

We’ve named this lot “Dez Anos” (10 years) to celebrate our long-standing relationship with the Borré family. Fabiano Borré, who leads Progresso’s coffee production, jokingly declared upon tasting it that he would “marry this coffee.”

Dez Anos is now being served in-store and available online.

What people say

Market Lane Coffee on Collins Street is a must-visit for coffee lovers in Melbourne. The shop has recently celebrated its 5th birthday and it's easy to see why it has such a loyal community of customers. The design of the shop, created in collaboration with Sarah Trotter, perfectly captures the essence of Melbourne's markets and offers a warm and welcoming space to begin or end your trip to the Vic Market.

But it's not just the atmosphere that makes Market Lane Coffee stand out. They source their coffee from talented and tireless individuals like Silvio Leite, who has helped them source beautiful coffees from Brazil for many years. Their latest offering from São Benedito is sweet, creamy, and smooth with notes of dark chocolate and apricot - perfect for filter brewing.

If you're looking to make your own coffee at home or on-the-go, Market Lane Coffee also offers three different brewing kits that contain everything you need to get started. Their Pour Over Kit is perfect for making a lighter-bodied, complex cup of pour-over coffee while their Jet Set Kit lets you make a clean and full-bodied Aeropress coffee.

Overall, Market Lane Coffee on Collins Street is an excellent choice for anyone looking for high-quality coffee in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
