Our “pickle fish salsa” is the yellow sauce you see.
Pickle fish is uniquely South African which combines the fish, spices, onions and oil that form the dish as a whole - and only eaten at Easter. (Cape communities)
There is no such thing as “pickle fish salsa” - South Africans will tell you that.
Until now.
We believe the sweet sour turmeric base spice is too good to wait once a year to eat. So we’ve turned it into a cool sauce for our fish mini roti.
It’s been described as similar in to mango chutney by a Sri Lankan guy and a South African customer said it sounds as though it shouldn’t work, but it does.
It’ll be running again on our menu this Sunday at Boatrocker Brewers Distillers - deets in bio
Keen to know how you would describe the pickle fish flavour?
(Sneak peek st our new truck colour too btw)
