It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve decided not to renew our lease and close the doors of Basta.

We have lived and traded on Gertrude Street for an amazing 6 years. Firstly, as Casa Ciuccio and Cafe, then as Basta and The Donkey Cafe.

We’re not going to sugar coat it - the past year has been a mammoth slog ... firstly with covid, the closure of The Donkey and ongoing staff shortages, to name a few.

To our loyal customers and friendly faces, we will miss you and we thank you all for your support. Those that have standing Friday night orders, the late night long blacks for the St V’s staff during covid, the millions of giddy up chefs and simple sandwiches during the day.

We’ll miss the regular chats with customers that we now call our mates, to the neighbouring businesses that have been supportive since the start.  It’s been a great ride, but it’s time to start a fresh, catch up on sleep and enjoy our family.

Basta's last service will be the 26th June. Only 6 short weekends to go - book your last table now.

Thanks for the memories,

Fabio and Carrie xox
