So, this is a hard one.
I guess there’s no easy way to say this. So here it is…
Very soon I will be saying goodbye to Custodian Kitchen.
Phew. There, I said it! 2920 days or so, (minus my “gap year)” and here we are. My time with you all is coming to an end. Have I loved every minute of it? Absolutely! I wouldn’t be who I am if it wasn’t for my Custodian family - both staff and customers.
Can I just tell you what a privilege it has been to be a part of your lives for the last 8 years?!
I’ve seen families welcome their first, second and third child, then watched these children grow. I’ve seen some of my closest friends celebrate their wedding day in our cafe because the space meant so much to them. We’ve hosted fantastic birthday parties - parties that I’ve felt like I’ve been a part of too. I’ve seen joy. I’ve seen loss and hardship, stress and sadness. Man, we weathered Covid together…
We’ve shared hugs and laughs and tears. We’ve shared so much.
It’s a lot to walk away from. Maybe that’s not the right way to put it. I’m not walking away. I’m not turning my back. I’m celebrating everything that we have created. These memories I’ll carry with me forever. Custodian is the first place I ever owned, and I’ve loved it more than I ever could have imagined. But I have other dreams and other ideas and when the time is right I’ll make them come true.
So for now I’m going to be with my wonderful family. In a few months we’ll grow from 3 to 4!!
Rest assured, you’re still in good hands. Amazing hands really!! Gerry along with Fluff, Sophia, Aliya, Bunta, Katie, Maddie, Charlie, Lauren, Myo and Peggy will still be giving you all the things you know and love from Custodian.

As part of our 8th Birthday Celebration (can you believe it?) were running our fundraising drive once again.
$3 for every coffee sold this Saturday 13th June goes towards our fundraising drive for Cafe Smart by streetsmartaustralia
Come hang out, help us raise some money for a great cause, and have some mulled wine, even all at the same time.

🎶 we got 99 sausages, because we at 1! 🎶
Clearly Kanye we are not. 😂
But seriously. We need your help. We have 99 sausages to sell at our birthday celebrations tomorrow. $3.50 each. With all proceeds being donated to CafeSmart. Please help us help them do some good!!
We couldn’t do this without the help of our friends Hansa Butchery. Who graciously donated 100 sausages. Bakery Lievito for donating 8 loaves of bread. And of course - Omar Marvellous Coffee Bird for shooting us some of their amazing beans, so we can add some of our coffee sales to the donation pot, too.
This Saturday - 13.6. 12.30-3pm.
Oh and we’ve made mulled wine and cup cakes. It is our birthday after all!!

Emotional day at the cafe today.
We said goodbye to Harry - Who’s heading back home to England for a little visit with his partner before beginning his next chapter.
Then we welcomed Sophia back to the kitchen. After having extended time off because she broke 4 fingers. 4!! OUCH.
We’ll miss Harry, and we’ve missed Sophia. So it’s a bit glass half full and a bit glass half empty.

This could be the last creation Harry gives us… 😭😭😭
Yep, is his last day tomorrow and he’s leaving us with a colourful number!
House focaccia + cauliflower (roasted cauliflower + pickled purple cauliflower + cauliflower puree) + kimchi + nori + fried egg.
It’s pretty pretty. And pretty delicious!
