Two big days are coming to Hopheads. 🍺

Thursday 6 August is International IPA Day — and we're celebrating across all three stores with brand new limited run IPAs straight from the brewery.

🍺 Altona — Reckless Brewing Co. drop their brand new Same Day IPA plus their brand new Rocky Ridge Brewing Co collab on tap
🍺 Point Cook — KAIJU Beer bring collabs galore! First a three-way collab featuring Mountain Culture Beer Co and Hop Nation then a beer each with the aforementioned breweries plus a new Mutation Series release! Monstrous!
🍺 Yarraville — Hawkers Beer get prime time with three epic new drops from their Afterlife series. Three HUGE hitters for the hop inclined. Plus maybe even something from their sister brewery White Bay Brewery.

Then on Friday 7 August, International Beer Day, all three breweries are in store for free tastings from 5pm — Reckless at Altona, Kaiju at Point Cook and Hawkers at Yarraville.

Sam's back in the chair this week and he's read the room perfectly — a hoppy red for a proper Melbourne winter chill, courtesy of our Collingwood mates at Stomping Ground Brewing Co the 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗣𝗔.

Red IPAs don't get nearly enough love, and this time of year is exactly when they should. You get the toasty, malty backbone of a proper red ale, but with the hop bite of an IPA layered right on top — best of both worlds, built for a jumper-weather Wednesday.

New Kicks, New Vibes, Same Good Legs.

Solid run clubs across all three stores last week. Altona was a touch quieter than usual but the weather was properly hit or miss, so no surprises there. Despite the cold, Point Cook once again pulled a great crowd — that consistency is something else.

This week Tuesday in Yarraville is looking like the tough one — rain building through the afternoon and a bit of wind to go with it by run time. Wednesday and Thursday are a much kinder story. Regardless, WE RUN!

Bit of a different Tuesday in Yarraville this week too — we're doing the ASICS Novablast 6 wear test with The Running Company-Yarraville. Meet at TRC around 6ish to try the shoes on and have a chat, then we'll run as a group and finish back at Hopheads for the usual reward. Slightly different start point, same great finish (and now with extra reason to layer up).

All 6:15pm as usual for Altona and Point Cook, run at 6:30. Hawkers Beer tinnie at the finish, Runner's Refuel with Village Cantina, Pier 71 Bar e Cucina and Old Pal Korean Kitchen after.

Big week of events — Casual Commander is on Tuesday and Thursday as usual. And Altona is celebrating our 5th birthday this week with a Good Land Good Days tap takeover — a proper reason to swing by.

Looking ahead — Nights of Brewtality returns next Wednesday, and International IPA (and Beer) Day celebrations are happening at all three venues next Friday. Stay tuned for details.

Good Land Brewing Co are celebrating Good Days Volume 5 — their fifth birthday — and they're doing it in style at Hopheads Altona Six collaborative beers brewed with some of Australia's finest, hitting our taps on Friday 31 July from 2pm.

Three have been announced so far:

Luke's back in the chair and his timing could not be better — Tallboy and Moose'𝘀 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝘇𝘆 𝗜𝗣𝗔 has landed, and this Friday our Altona store is doing a free tasting with the brewery to coincide with 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿'𝘀 wrestling show - 𝗠𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆. Beer and bodyslams. As nature intended.

Updog is a hazy hitter loaded with tropical fruit and citrus zest, finishing smooth and pillowy — basically the beer equivalent of a good boy who's very excited to see you. It's also a beer with a heart — Tallboy and Moose launched it alongside a fundraiser for a local dog rescue, so every can does a bit of good in the world.

Something a little different is coming to Hopheads Altona on Friday 24 July. 🤼

Deathmatch Downunderr are taking over the back room for a night of live professional wrestling — and yes, it’s exactly as wild as it sounds.

But that’s not all. The legends fromTallboy and Moosee — who happen to be massive wrestling fans and long-time supporters of DMDU — will be in from 6pm for a free tasting before the action kicks off. Pop in for that and to have a chat with the performers pre-fight!

Solid Week, Windy Week, Whatever-Week.

Well done to everyone who did HHRC Run Clubbers who did Run Melbourne on the weekend!

Really solid turnout across all three run clubs last week — great to see the numbers holding strong through winter.

This week's a mixed bag weather-wise. Tuesday in Yarraville is dry but properly windy, so hold onto your hat. Wednesday in Altona is a bit touch and go — rain chances build through the afternoon before easing off right as we lace up, so it should scrape through dry. Thursday in Point Cook is the pick of the week — calm and settled all the way through.

For those chasing some a bit of a structured run, Jordan from The Running Company-Yarraville will be doing a Tempo Tuesday session at Run Club. And then, we've got a wear test with ASICS featuring their new Novablast 6!

All 6:15pm, run at 6:30. Hawkers tinnie at the finish, Runner's Refuel with Village Cantina Pier 71 Bar e Cucina and Old Pal Korean Kitchen after. Headlamps on. 🔦

It's been a minute between drinks for Altona stalwart Wade, but he's returned right on cue for one of the most anticipated releases of the Melbourne winter calendar — Hargreaves Hill Brewing Company's 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗥𝗜𝗦, sitting at a serious 11.2%.

For those unfamiliar: RIS stands for Russian Imperial Stout, a style that dates back to 18th century England, where beers were brewed extra strong and heavily hopped so they could survive the long sea journey to the Russian Imperial court. What started as a practical solution to a shipping problem became one of the richest, boldest beer styles in the world — black, dense, and built to warm you from the inside out.

Hargreaves Hill have made their RIS an annual winter tradition, with past vintages developing a genuine cult following among stout collectors — their 21st birthday release even blended barrels from 2021 through 2024. This year's edition skips the barrel altogether, relying purely on time and a serious malt bill to do the work.

Draft Nights are back at Hopheads Yarraville — and we're assembling for a big one. 🃏⚡

We're drafting Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes this Thursday. It's the full Marvel universe on cardboard — Avengers, X-Men, villains, and everything in between. Heroes and Villains aren't just flavour either; they're baked right into the mechanics. Power up your heroes, build a dastardly Plan as a villain, or Teamwork your way to victory. It's as fun as it sounds.

Draft Nights have been building nicely and we're glad to have them back at Yarraville. Whether you're a returning face or stepping up to the table for the first time, you're welcome here.

Slides On, Legs Recovered, Back We Go.

Pretty solid turnout across all three run clubs last week — thanks again to The Running Company-Yarraville and OOFOS Australia for the recovery slide wear test in Yarraville. A few grateful legs out there.

Back at it this week. Yarraville's a bit touch and go on Tuesday — rain chances build through the afternoon before easing off right around run time, so it should scrape through dry, but don't put the jacket away just yet. Wednesday and Thursday settle down nicely for Altona and Point Cook — calmer, clearer evenings both nights.

All 6:15pm, run at 6:30. Hawkers tinnie at the finish, Runner's Refuel with Village Cantina Pier 71 Bar e Cucina and Old Pal Korean Kitchen after. Headlamps on. 🔦

Big week of events too — MTG Casual Commander Night is on at Altona tomorrow from 6:30pm, and Thursday sees the first MTG Draft Night back at Yarraville in a good while — 6pm start. Thursday night at Altona it's also AFL on the big screen. Busy week, good excuses to hang around after your run.

🏄 WAWDW — LOCALS ONLY

Kai's back in the WAWDW chair after a little break and he's come back in style — picking 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆, a milk stout collab between Local Brewing Co. and our old mates at Bells Beach Brewing, the surf-inspired crew out of Torquay on the Surf Coast.

This isn't the first time Bells Beach have paddled our way — long-time Hopheads locals might remember our Neapolitan Imperial Stout collab with them — and they haven't lost their touch. Locals Only is a milk stout built on vanilla and lactose for that signature creamy smoothness, with the kind of rich malt body that somehow makes a cold Melbourne Wednesday feel like a warm afternoon on the coast.

The name says it all. Locals Only. You earned your spot. Now enjoy the ride.

Your Legs Called. They Want a Recovery Slide.

Last week was a mixed one across the run clubs — Yarraville and Point Cook were a little quieter than we'd have liked, but Altona more than picked up the slack with another cracking turnout. Altona's consistency at this point is basically a personality trait. We love it. 💪

This week we're back and the forecast is actually looking brilliant — overcast Tuesday but dry, and Wednesday and Thursday are shaping up beautifully clear. After a few rough weeks, we'll take it.

Special news for Tuesday's Yarraville run — in collaboration with our friends at The Running Company-Yarraville we're hosting an OOFOS Australia wear test on the night. If you've just dragged yourself around the Gold Coast Marathon this weekend and your legs are quietly screaming at you, this one's for you. OOFOS make recovery slides and they'll be on hand Tuesday night for you to try them out post-run. Couldn't be better timing.
