We have a problem for a dish that NEEDS banana leaf - we can’t get it… and as it’s Onam coming up - we NEED banana leaf for our sadya feast 29/30 Aug.

So like 🐿️🐿️🐿️ we’re storing away our banana leaf.
We considered a midnight dash and run to the local Lotus Gardens with their 4 mt tall banana palms but that’s apparently not a very neighbourly thing to do. 😂

Oh and then there’s you lot celebrating Onam at the 150+ community associations around the state going on. We’re predicting a quiet few weeks for us before the real Onam week.

So - this SUNDAY - is the last chance to get pollichattu.
(Can you believe - I haven’t taken a good photo of our pollichattu 🫪. That’s bad form on my part. Thanks to Vivek M on Google for this one).

Bookings strongly recommended!

We wish it was as simple as just ‘opening the doors’.‘Build it and they will come’… but will they? Will they really come...

We wish it was as simple as just ‘opening the doors’.
‘Build it and they will come’… but will they? Will they really come?

We’re not ‘down the road’, we’re a destination restaurant down windy roads and misty mountains (we like it that way). For the most part, you intentionally visit us and not stumble across us.

And so opening the doors every day is something we have to consider deeply -
Staff costs.
A basic break even cost that needs to be met
(Weekdays in Warby have always been tricky - we often don’t achieve this and typically close on a Tues & Wed).

But this school holiday - we can proudly say - was worthwhile.

YOU CAME! And we are so grateful… thank you!

And to the locals - YOU also came … and bought take away on Tues / Wed night when we’re usually closed.

It was raining. Heavily. And you came!

You came from Geelong! You came from Sydney! You came from Adelaide! …and we’re quite sure many other faraway places.

We had days when we were significantly busier than expected (thank you for your patience if service was a bit stretched).

And we had days that were - just OK.

Our learning? That would be about interstate school holidays.

Poor manager Liz …rostered alone yesterday (Monday) because we weren’t expecting busy - got totally smashed, us taking 5 times our usual day time trade.
It turns out the rest of Australia was still on school holidays (we didn’t factor that in)!

Oops. Sorry and thank you Liz for holding the fort!

Thanks to Hollie and Junior Billie who stepped in at 5pm to try to manage the fall out of that.
Dishes. So many dishes. (Again, sorry if service could have been better. Liz truly did her best).

So next school holidays - we check interstate school holidays as well! Lesson learnt.

Thank you to everyone for your support.

Its a difficult time of the year - LOTS of scary bills - payroll tax, work cover, gst, payg …

These two weeks have taken the pressure off - just a tiny bit.

We’re grateful.

X Babajis

‘Misfits'for me, was about bringing people together and connecting people and right from a very young age that’s exactly what I was doing… ‘Sarah Ward OAM. The MISFIT Project Founder.
‘When it came to me being in final year of school - I had to do a year long project. It could be on anything I wanted it to be and theatre had always been something that I had really enjoyed and that I loved but I wanted to use it to really tell a story
I wanted to talk about difference and being accepting of difference and finding a place to belong and having that community support. From there Misfit just kinda grew!’

👋 Community
👋 Bringing people together?
… Almost sounds like Babajis.

We know how first hand how it feels …
We’re misfits too!
