Founder’s Series: Part 4 – Demolition Day
Before the site is officially handed over to Axil Coffee, Dave and the team are given a short window during the defit to get in, check measurements, visualise the space and identify any challenges ahead.
Nothing ever goes exactly to plan when building a café, so this time is invaluable. It gives the team a chance to spot potential problems early, make adjustments and solve issues before they become bigger ones.

What a weekend for the Axil team at the Community Coffee Champs.
We had Axil coffee professionals competing across three disciplines, and we couldn’t be prouder of the way everyone represented the team.
First up, Darcy and Phu took on the Latte Art competition and we’re stoked to say that both have made it through to the Australian Finals in November!
In the Barista Competition, one of our very own roasters, Zachary, stepped onto the competition stage for the first time. He absolutely delivered, finishing 3rd place in an incredibly strong field.
Zachary competed with El Obraje Washed Geisha, alongside an Indonesian coffee from his homeland from Reza Nurullah of JB Coffee and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the National Finals.
And finally, Sung competed in the Brewers Cup for the very first time. Sung delivered one of the most beautiful performances we’ve seen, bringing incredible thought, care and passion to the stage. Unfortunately, in an incredibly tight field, it wasn’t quite enough to make the November finals.
Huge congratulations, Sung. We’re incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see what you deliver next year.

Over the coming months, you'll notice our coffee hitting the shelves in new packaging, moving from paper to plastic.
Made from PolyPropylene (PP) and PolyEthylene (PE), the new bags are easier to recycle than the old bags, which were a mix of paper and plastic. Mixed materials are tricky to separate and can’t be recycled efficiently. Not to mention, the bag's rigidity has caused many to split over the years, increasing wastage on the packaging line or in transit.
These new bags use a few different plastics with similar melting points, giving them better value for plastic recyclers. They also carry the “Check Locally” ARL logo, letting you know they can be recycled in a soft plastics collection. You can read more about this at the link in bio.
