We're back. 🔥

After two big days ripping out the old rack oven and installing our new Salva deck and convection ovens, the doors open again tomorrow from 4am.

Huge effort from PJ Electrical & Handyman Services and VanRooy Machinery to pull this off in just two days — proper tradespeople who got stuck in and just got it done.

And to everyone who waited it out with us — thank you. Your patience means a lot. 🙏

We're absolutely stoked with the new ovens and the extra capacity they give us. The bread range is coming back better than ever, and honestly, we can't wait to show you what's next.

See you bright and early tomorrow morning, Langwarrin. ❤️

THE OVEN BROKE. THE BAKERS DIDN'T. 🍞🔥

A bit of an update from behind the scenes at Donnelly's Bakehouse.

Late on Saturday afternoon, our main oven suffered a major mechanical failure and was immediately out of action. After more than 10 years of faithful service, it looks like we're facing some significant repairs and decisions in the weeks ahead.

Rather than close our doors, an incredible effort kicked off behind the scenes. A huge thank you to Baketec Solutions, along with everyone else who helped us source, deliver, install and get a temporary oven running in record time.

By Sunday evening we had a small replacement oven in place, and by early this morning our bakers were back producing fresh bread, rolls and savouries for the community.

For the next little while our bread range will be more limited than usual. Our temporary oven has only a fraction of the capacity of our normal oven, so you'll see fewer tinned sandwich loaves and more handcrafted products such as Vienna loaves, baguettes and other artisan-style breads taking their place on the shelves.

Everything else in the bakery is business as usual. Donuts, pastries, cakes, slices, pies and sausage rolls will continue to be available as normal.

We're incredibly proud of our team, grateful for the support we've received, and determined to keep baking while we work through a longer-term solution.

Seeing so many familiar faces walk through the door and hearing your words of encouragement over the past couple of days has meant a lot to our team. Thank you, Langwarrin. ❤️

A little reminder that while our name is changing, the people behind the bakery aren't.

After more than 27 years as The Bread Spot, we're proud to be starting the next chapter as Donnelly's Bakehouse.

Same family. Same team. Same bakery.

Thank you for all the support, kind messages and memories you've shared with us over the past week. We’ve loved reading every one of them. ❤️

THE BREAD SPOT IS BECOMING DONNELLY’S BAKEHOUSE

Same owners. Same crew. Same bakery.
Just a name that finally reflects the journey.

On the 22nd of February 1999, Kellie and I took over The Bread Spot with our 13-month-old son Tighe beside us. We were 24 years old, full of nerves, excitement and probably a little bit too much confidence.

What many people may not know is that long before we owned the bakery, I worked here as a teenager for the original owners, Carol and Hector, who built the bakery from the ground up when this part of Langwarrin was still largely paddocks and new shops. Back then there was a video store nearby, a small doctor’s surgery and a very different feel to the area.

Since the bakery first opened, there have only ever been two owners.

When we took over in 1999, we kept the name “The Bread Spot” because we didn’t want to upset customers or change something people already knew and trusted. As the years rolled on, the bakery grew far beyond anything we imagined. What started as a small local bakery became our life’s work.

Over the years, the bakery became part of our entire family’s life. Kellie’s mum spent many years working beside us in the bakery and became a familiar face to so many customers. After losing her a few years ago, the support and kindness shown to our family by staff, customers and the local community was something we will never forget.

Over the last 27 years we’ve watched kids grow into adults, then come back in with children of their own. We’ve employed so many wonderful staff members who became part of the extended bakery family. Some stayed for months, some for many years, but all helped shape what the bakery became.

This business has never just been about bread, pies or cakes to us. It’s been about people, routine, community, friendships and relationships built over decades. The kind where customers become familiar faces, then friends, then part of your life story.

Our daughter Shelby has grown up working in the bakery while completing university, and even Tighe had his time helping Dad on the nightshift years ago between baseball commitments. The bakery has been woven through every chapter of our family’s life.

After nearly three decades, it finally feels like the right time for the bakery name to reflect the family behind it.

So while The Bread Spot name will slowly disappear, the heart of the bakery won’t be changing at all.

To every customer, staff member, supplier and local family who has supported us over the years — thank you. You helped build this with us.

We’re incredibly proud of what this bakery has become, and excited for the next chapter.

Welcome to Donnelly’s Bakehouse.
