A big fan and supporter of Open Studio.
For those who knew Chris Thompson..

Another light has left us... and the world is quieter for it.
Chris Thompson has passed away, and with him a rare kind of generosity, encouragement, and humanity.
Chris touched so many lives. I met him at a formative moment, just as I was starting out in the performing arts at St Martin’s. He was so supportive, encouraging, and genuinely interested in others finding their path. I can honestly say he was one of the people who helped propel me toward my work in the arts.. simply by believing, listening, and showing up with kindness.
He was a truly special man, and those who knew him know how wide his impact was and will continue to be.

There is a fundraising event in his memory for those who wish to honour Chris and show their support for this special memorial held in his honour.
Please feel free to share to those who knew Chris in the community.

Rest gently, Chris.
Sending love and strength to Margot and Gully at this time

Fifth of Nisan returns every Tuesday night this November with a four-part residency of genre-bending klezmer jazz: cinematic, immersive, and full of chutzpah.
Known for their infectious energy and eclectic sound, the seven-piece ensemble weaves Eastern European melodies with jazz, world, and contemporary grooves.
Each night is built around a theme to accompany JIFF — Lights, Sound, Camera, Action — and features a curated program designed to blur the lines between music, film, ritual, and celebration.
4 Nov - Lights: An atmospheric night of illumination, ritual, and light design. With each song lit to match mood and meaning, this opening night explores the role of light in Jewish tradition and cinema.
11 Nov - Sound: A deep dive into texture and tone, featuring special guest instrumentalists. Expect an immersive night of sonic exploration and cross-cultural musical conversation.
18 Nov - Camera: Where live music meets moving image. Archival footage, Jewish film excerpts, and visual storytelling create a live, stylised “movie” with the band as your on-stage directors.
25 Nov - Action: The finale. A high-energy, standing-room dance party. Driven by dance beats, rhythmic pulse, and pure Jewish joy, this closing night brings the residency to an unforgettable climax.
Presented alongside the Jewish International Film Festival, this residency is a live musical counterpart to the cinema program, showcasing live music, film-inspired storytelling, and cultural celebration.
Come be part of it, every Tuesday night this November.

Step into the world of Fifth of Nisan, where music becomes a journey through time and culture. The 7-piece ensemble draws inspiration from the rich tapestry of Eastern European shtetl life as well as jazz, classical, pop, and world music, creating a kaleidoscope that synthesises genres seamlessly.

Great news for the Melbourne's live music scene congrats to Justin and crew! From OS

Big news for The Night Cat! On Tuesday they celebrated the overturning of Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT)’s temporary orders that were threatening it’s operations.

Congratulations to Justin Stanford, the wider Night Cat team and everyone who fought for this - and a massive thank you to the community whose support made all the difference. What a great outcome!

This is a big win not just for Justin, but for the entire Melbourne music community – together, we’ve saved another venue! 💜

Here’s to many more nights of great music at The Night Cat!

"The Australian music scene remains heavily male-dominated. According to 2024 stats, just two of 17 APRA Awards categories went to female artists. Only seven per cent of triple j’s Hottest 100 songs featured female acts. Many Australian festivals continue booking lineups dominated by male artists, particularly in headlining positions.

LOUD WOMEN has operated tastemaker events in London and New York since 2015. The intersectional feminist collective built its reputation championing emerging female and non-binary talent. Their London events regularly sell out venues across the capital."
