Our friends from Alle Munchkins are throwing their annual party for all German music lovers here at Hofbrauhaus on 23rd May from 6-1pm upstairs in the Bierhall.
What's a Schlagerparty, you ask? It's like a German karaoke rave where everyone’s tipsy, dressed like they raided a 1980s second-hand-shop, and screaming along to cheesy pop tunes that sound like ABBA’s long-lost German cousins. And we Germans just absolutely love it 😄

On this day, back in 1516, we Germans did something very German…
We made a law about Bier. 🍺
The Reinheitsgebot was introduced in Bavaria not just for fun, but for a few very good reasons:
to make sure beer stayed high quality, to stop brewers using strange (and sometimes unsafe) ingredients, and to protect wheat and rye for baking bread instead of brewing.
The rule? Keep it simple.
Water. Malt. Hops.
(Yeast joined the party later once science caught up.)
Over 500 years later, we’re still sticking to it. No shortcuts, no weird additives — just proper Bier brewed the way it was meant to be.
And that's why we only serve Bier brewed in accordance to the Bier Purity Law here at Hofbräuhaus Melbourne! Das Original and the only one in Australia since 1968.
