Righto, gather round because this one’s a glow up of biblical proportions.

Fifty5 on Barkly… aka what we all knew growing up as Grab a Granny, has had the biggest rebrand since your mate Dave discovered gym supplements and a fade. And let me tell you, she’s not just back, she’s THRIVING.

Walk in and it’s giving retro lounge meets cool Asian fusion hideout. Moody lighting, funky mirrors, a vibe so chill you could accidentally stay there for 6 hours and not even question your life choices. There’s even a pool table with tiger print felt because why the hell not. Confidence. And it’s the cute sister of one of my favourite places ever, The dubliner!

Now the real star… the FOOD.

We got stuck into spicy pork dumplings that were so good I immediately regretted sharing. Four dumplings between two adults? Embarrassing behaviour from me. Should’ve ordered a personal tray and told everyone to grow up.

Coconut rice? Elite.
Crispy chicken & cashew? Unreal. Proper “shut up and just eat” kind of meal.

Now, the real test.
Three teenage boys.

You know, the species that communicates exclusively in grunts, TikTok references and “yeah it’s alright.”

These blokes smashed fried rice, THREE plates of calamari, and hit me with:
“that was so meta bro.”

I don’t even know what that means but I think it’s a Michelin star in teenage language.

Then, like absolute animals, they ordered THREE chocolate mousses… and now I was stuck hosting a sleepover with sugar-fuelled chaos and zero regrets.

Massive shoutout to Conleth for absolutely nailing this place. And thank you to Ruby our amazing server. You’ve taken a nostalgic old haunt and turned it into somewhere you actually want to hang out and eat until you physically can’t move.

If you haven’t been yet, get down there.
Date night, family dinner, pretending you’re cool in front of teenagers… this place ticks every box.

We accidentally achieved peak parenting today.
Kids? Gone.
Responsibility? Temporarily suspended.
Decision making? Dangerous.

So naturally we did what any emotionally stable adults would do…
we went straight to the pub and ordered like we just escaped a famine.
Enter: The Dubliner.

Now listen carefully…
this wasn’t just a meal.
This was a full spiritual awakening with chips.

The Parma came out looking like it pays a mortgage.
Golden, crispy, covered in enough cheese to block an artery just by eye contact.
And sitting underneath it like loyal soldiers… hot chips that actually respect you.

Not those limp, sad, undercooked excuses.
These ones had crunch. Authority. A purpose in life.

But let’s talk about the real MVP…
THE CURRY SAUCE.
What the actual hell is in that thing?!
I took one dip and immediately considered cancelling all future life plans just to stay there.
Hook it up to me like a hospital drip.
Forget hydration, I’ll run purely on curry sauce and poor decisions.

I’m sitting there like,
“Yeah nah I could absolutely ruin my life over this.”
Even the side salad tried its best to feel included, but let’s be real… no one invited her.

And the vibe? Elite.
Sun out, beers flowing, parents pretending they’re still fun. 10/10 behaviour from everyone involved.

I am now emotionally healed, and 3 dips away from asking for the recipe like a desperate ex.
Get down to The Dubliner immediately.
Order the parma Sell your soul to the curry sauce.

Sipping Jack and lemonade like I’m a classy, well-adjusted adult… knowing full well I’ll be three drinks deep screaming Dropkick Murphys like I’ve just been recruited into a pub brawl. But it’s okay, I’m of Irish descent 🇮🇪
