Finally on Sunday we welcome Jim Green back to the Lowie stage. Jim Green is a Melbourne guitarist/singer steeped in the Irish/Australian storytelling tradition. Vale Tony Hargreaves
The broader Melbourne music community, and the Lowie community in particular, is greatly saddened about the death of the legendary Tony Hargreaves.
There are many reasons why his passing is deeply felt at The Lomond Hotel. Tony was one of the founders of music at the Lowie.
He graced the Lowie Live stage countless times as a member of bands such as The Whirling Furphies and Aintree Sweet.
He was a fixture on Tuesday nights at the Irish Session, playing beautifully with Dan and whoever turned up on the night.
Tony was often asked by admiring performers to join-in on the piano at their gigs, sometimes unrehearsed, which he always did with aplomb, perhaps the truest indication of his immense talent.
Tony was a wonderful supporter of up-and-coming musicians. He mentored, advised, encouraged and applauded so many through the years. Their gratitude and love for Tony is evident in the outpouring of grief at his passing. He truly left an indelible mark on the Melbourne music scene which will be carried on by all of those he helped to be better players. A wonderful legacy.
Tony will leave a huge hole at The Lomond. We will miss him deeply. We are grateful for all of the joy he brought to so many over so many years.
We send our sincerest commiserations to his family and many friends.
RIP Tony Hargreaves
