We are kicking off June with some great music at Lowie Live!!

Tuesday gets the ball rolling with Dan and the gang playing some jigs and reels at the famous Irish Session. Our local musicians know the odd tune or two. Maybe even some Supertramp!
Across the room the Chess Club keep their heads down while pulling off some spectacular moves of their own. And it's all free!

On Saturday we proudly present Paper Jane. With heartache grooves and vocals which are by turn vulnerable and anthemic Paper Jane are the "succulent Chinese meal" of Melbourne Americana. Theirs are songs of Australian stories and life beyond the happy ending. Lead singer Buck Edwards has a turbo vocal range that will leave you wanting for nothing. Don Redfern, the band's Dalai Llama of bass, holds it together along with their pocket rocket Michaela Burke on drums. Fiddle genius Scotty Jansen completes the line-up. 9pm $15

Finally on Sunday at 5pm the band that needs no introduction... City Soul R***e!! A firm Lowie favourite, MCSR know how to get the joint rocking and loudly singing along. Don't miss the powerful lead vocals of Slatty D, supported by the muscular soul sounds of a great band. See you there! 5pm $20

It's another high-quality music week at Lowie Live!!

Tuesday evening is of course Irish Session night where Dan and the gang get together around the big table to play some jigs and reels for you.
Across the room the Chess Club players concentrate hard while quietly tapping their feet. It's a unique night.

Wednesday sees a special edition of Lomond Acoustica compered by Rodney Claringbould presenting The Kitchen Table Tour.
Bill Jackson, Frank Jones & Dave Steel come together for a rare Melbourne Show...
Playing old and new songs from their extensive solo catalogues, interspersed with their take on some classic Australian folk songs, they will make you sing, laugh and cry. 8pm.
Tickets $18 online, $20 at the door.

Our double header on Saturday kicks off at 5pm with Conundrum Irish Group. Playing the 2nd installment of their residency, Conundrum are a Melbourne band playing predominantly traditional Irish music. Come in for the joy and craic. 5pm $15

At 9pm we welcome Girl Friday and the Sepia Tones to the Lowie stage. Girl Friday collects and reshapes the most enduring sounds of the 20th century, turning the familiar into something wholly her own. It's always a great gig. 9pm $15

Finally on Sunday we welcome back Jeff Lang for the fifth edition of Jeff Lang's Fandangled Jamboree, the monthly Sunday residency where Jeff invites his esteemed comrades for a roller coaster ride of musical thrills and spills.

This week at Lowie Live!!

We kick off with a bang with Sheldon King, with an event which is selling fast!
In Sheldon's words: "I am so excited about this! My new album features the songs closest to my heart after 3 decades of songwriting, given an incredible, beautiful new life by the ethereal, vocals of Luna and Aoife.
We are launching on May 19th at the Lomond. CD's will be available on the night and downloads from bandcamp will be available for preorder from next week".

Our double header on Saturday kicks off at 5pm with Saturday Songstresses featuring Gina Hearnden, Alison Ferrier and Tanya Lee Davies. These three wonderful songwriters and performers will combine their powerful voices, bringing all the feels. 5pm $15

At 9pm Rod Paine & the Fulltime Lovers return to the Lowie Live stage. Come in to see them cook up a stew based upon the dirty electric Blues, Roots and R&B of the early sixties, but with splashes of Country balladry, Gospel, Americana and Rock n Roll. You get the full flavour! 9pm $15

Finally on Sunday we present Jim Green. Expect 3-part harmonies, blistering solos and grooves that get you dancing. Jim and some of Melbourne's best blues/Jazz instrumentalists will present a special evening of songs ranging from Jim's own to Ry Cooder and Randy Newman classics. Sam LeMann is a Melbourne treasure and his guitar has graced the stage alongside many jazz, western swing and blues line-ups over the years. It will be a great music weekend at Lowie Live!!

On Saturday at 5pm Danny Walsh Banned are hosting a birthday bonanza of live music and stories for their esteemed septuagenarian keyboard player Leo ‘The Weed’ Tellefson OAM and you’re all invited. Expect tales of outcasts, drifters, the homeless, and voices half-heard on late-night regional radio, when the dial isn’t quite tuned in. These are songs overheard at the bar of a country pub or carried across a long night drive through broken landscapes, told with humour, grit, and a restless sense of wonder. 5pm $15

At 9pm we welcome MissSkaTonic to the stage. Purveyors of rocksteady and early Jamaican Ska, Miss Skatonic digs deep into the female fronted repertoire of the sixties and seventies. Featuring vocal harmonies, horns, Hammond and a killer rhythm section that gets you right in the belly this band boasts some of Melbourne's finest and most renowned players of the genre. 9pm $15

It's another big week at Lowie Live!!

We start with the wonderful Irish Session and Chess Club on Tuesday night. From 8pm

Our monthly Trivia Night is on Thursday. Get your team together and come on down. Lots of fun for those in the know. 7pm

Friday night sees PSI PHI - band take the stage. Drawing inspiration from the gatefold-era of 70s prog and psych rock hedonistic excess, this supergroup boasts a burgeoning repertoire of originals, blended with some iconic and formidable covers. PSI PHI evoke the gods & monsters of the golden age of rock with virtuosity and intensity. 9pm $15

We have two Lowie favourites performing on Saturday!
At 5pm we kick off with Mick Pealing & Nick Charles presenting their Long Road Home show. Mick Pealing and Nick Charles Music will beguile you with their virtuoso playing and heartfelt singing of their wonderful songs. 5pm $20
At 8.30pm we present The Pheasantry supported by Martyn Horstead, neither act requiring any introduction. Alt country, urban folk, country rock, rock n roll, bluegrass and blues from the city or the swamp … call it what you will, but these guys mix all this together, and more. And now for Sunday. The 10 year anniversary celebration of Lomond Acoustica!
Lowie Live regulars know the wonderful history of Lomond Acoustica, presented by Rodney Claringbould. Lomond Acoustica is an extension of a regular contemporary music show which has been running for over 33 years. 10 years ago it moved to what is its rightful place at The Lomond Hotel.
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary Rodney has gathered some stellar acts including Kris Mizzi, Mandy Connell, Kavisha Paola Mazzella, Nick Charles Music, Jimi Hocking a.k.a. Jimi the human, and Michael Waugh. It all kicks off at 3pm and will run into the night. Don't miss this one! 3.30pm $30

It's another big week at Lowie Live!!

Tuesday night sees the famous Irish Session in the main bar. As always, the craic will be grand. Across the room our Chess Club friends concentrate hard while they tap their feet. From 8pm

On Wednesday Lomond Acoustica, presented by Rodney Claringbould, showcase more fine talent in Faces in the Street Band with Bruce Watson music and Hugh Belfrage.
Faces in the Street is an Australian Indie Folk trio born of the Keynes Brothers founded by John Fraser (vocals/guitar) & Rowan Cole vocals/mandolin/guitar/mandola) who draw their inspiration from folk, rock, and country blues.
Bruce & Hugh offer joyful, hilarious, thought provoking, totally engaging songs. Bruce is an Australian folk icon - a masterful craftsman of songs and story weaver who has won a stack of awards, has appeared at the Lomond many times. He is joined by the exquisite cello of Hugh Belfrage. 8pm $10

Friday night sees loved Lowie fav Alison Ferrier with her fabulous band the Upshots; Dave Folley on drums, Alics Gate-Eastley holding down the low end and Jeff Lang on electric guitar. Expect to hear sublime three-part harmonies and influences of folk, blues, country and rock. Always wonderful! 9pm $15

On Saturday afternoon at the earlier time of 3pm we present the always entertaining Honeybees with Possum in the Roof.
3 banging ukuleles, 1sultry sax and a gorgeous glockenspiel, what’s not to like! Playing a mix of retro favourites and hits of today, the Honeybees are a joy, a surprise, an act to remember.
Melbourne’s “Possum in the Roof” perform original toe tappin’ tunes in sweet harmony peppered with yodels of yesteryear. 3pm $15

Last but certainly never least we welcome back Lowie favs Moreland City Soul R***e on Sunday at 5pm. On Friday night we present Cold Snap. Cold Snap has been igniting stages with their high-energy blend of blues, funk, soul, and R&B since 2007. Led by the dynamic husband-and-wife team, Joe & Sonia Valenti, this powerhouse 6-piece delivers unforgettable live shows full of passion. Tuesday night will be a special night as we welcome legendary Celtic guitarist Tony McManus back to the Lowie. Ranked alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats, Tony's fiendishly dexterous, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora – Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton, Quebec – along with flavours, such as jazz and east European music. This Tuesday evening (April 14th) Lowie Live is proud to present Tony McManus, the Legendary Celtic Guitarist, for a special gig.

Tony has extended and transcended the parameters of contemporary Celtic music. Ranked alongside the guitar world’s all-time greats, his fiendishly dexterous, dazzlingly original playing draws on traditions from the entire Celtic diaspora – Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Galicia, Asturias, Cape Breton, Quebec – along with flavours such as jazz and east European music.

He has an uncanny ability to transpose the delicate, complex ornamentation of traditional bagpipe or fiddle tunes – even the phrasing of a Gaelic song – onto his six strings.

It will be another big week at Lowie Live!

On Friday we welcome back the much-loved Corduroys for the last gig of their current residency. Sadly, it is Nate's last gig so don't miss this one featuring the band's winning mix of infectious pop melodies with the rhythmic grooves of funk and the sophisticated harmonies of modern jazz. The place will be hopping! 9pm $15

Our double bill on Saturday begins at 5pm with Mick Pealing & Nick Charles with the Long Road Home. Featuring the formidable talents of Mick Pealing, widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest voices and known as the signature vocalist of the iconic band Stars, who will once again join forces with Nick Charles, Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic roots guitar. They are Lowie Live favorites for a reason! 5pm $20

At 9pm we present Johnny Wilson, Ken & Rory Maher, John McAuslan and Tony Hargreaves getting together for Ken's farewell gig. Be prepared to see a group of family and friends with a deep love for folk, country and bluegrass. Ken Maher of Merri Creak, The Colonials, Rebels without a Clue and countless others will be performing a selection of songs with nephew Johnny Wilson and son Rory Maher. It's a pre-Easter week but there is still music to be had at Lowie Live!

Tuesday night sees the return of Dan Bourke and the gang for another entertaining Irish Session. With plenty of room for our Chess Club players as well. Come in after 8 for the heartfelt music and the strategic moves!

Tuesday kicks us off in the front bar with the famous Irish Session accompanied by Chess Club. The room has something for everyone! From 8pm

On Friday night we present The Beez (from Berlin!). Whether its ABC TV´s Spicks and Specks or Folk Festivals from Vancouver Island to Woodford, Dublin to Port Fairy, The Beez deliver a dizzying pastiche of comedy and music that leaves their audiences reaching for the German-English phrasebook. The Beez in one word? “Prost!" 9pm $15

Come Saturday at 5pm we welcome back Lowie favs Conundrum Irish Group for the next installment in their last Saturday of each month residency (except for April!). Expect the usual winning mix of Irish folk that always puts smiles on faces and toes tapping. 5pm $15

Finally on Sunday Sime Nugent and The Capes take the stage. Sime has toured nationally and internationally throughout Australia, Europe and America and released more than a dozen albums with a range of bands in his 30-year career. Most recently he's worked with Linda Bull on Stardust - The songs of Willie Nelson and with Paul Kelly on his Christmas album, the song Sleep Australia Sleep and the legendary Gravy Shows.
